| Created from a series of 8 paintings produced during the 1999 Montreal Jazz Festival, where each painting, about 6 x 6 in size, was completed live during the sets of Luke Vibert, Amon Tobin, Space Time Continuum, Carl Craig, Joe Claussell, the Herbalizer, Thievery Corporation and Frédéric Galliano. Based on the initial success of the Jazz Festival series, Heavyweight continued the series on a 25 city / 37 day tour, to the sight and sounds of the Herbalizer (9 piece full band) and Roots Manuva. Heavyweight also did a two day showcase at the Gaint Step / C.M.J. Music Festival at the Roxy in NYC, featuring artists such as Jurassic 5, Cut Chemist, Fema Kuta, Lamb, Aphrodite, dj Krust and Carl Craig and the Innerzone Orchestra. Heavyweight also took part in the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Palm Springs, California. At Coachella, Heavyweight worked images to the sounds of Kool Keith (Black Elvis), Kid Koala, Dj Food, Neotropic, Nightmares on Wax and Ming&FS just to name a few. The approach of the artwork is far removed from the sterile environment of a gallery or the isolation of an artists studio, and instead, created and completed during the course of the live show. The audience follows along as the artists take the raw energy and emotion of both the spectators and performance as influences and interprets it into a work of art. The entire series of 27 paintings can be viewed on Heavyweights web site (hvw8.com). Look out for articles on Heavyweight in the February issues of Paper Magazine and CMJ music magazine. Heavyweight will also be exhibiting the entire collection in a city near you this spring.
